In our Peer-to-Peer programmes, we train your pupils in the skills of academic coaching, match them with a younger pupil, and then supervise them as they deliver a series of coaching sessions. Coaches meet with their coachee once a week in school to deliver 1:1 sessions.

Both coach and coachee benefit from developing relationships across year groups, and the programme is evidenced to improve the leadership skills of the senior pupil, attainment of the junior pupil, and the confidence, independence, and resilience of both.

In our 2022/23 Annual Report, we had found that pupil coaches on our Peer-to-Peer programme…

  • Had 3.1 higher school attendance than a matched control group during our programme.

  • Were 41% more likely than a matched control group tp increase or sustain their attendance after the programme.

  • Saw their attendance increase by 11% if they had been persistently absent before the programme started.

PEER ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Training senior pupils as academic coaches ensures younger pupils receive quality academic support from a relatable role model. Pupils develop listening, communication, and leadership skills to aid them on the path to higher education. The upper-year coaches will also become eligible for a SSAT Student Leadership Award which they can put on their CV to help with next steps.

TAILORED PROGRAMME

Younger pupils set their programme goal with their coach at the start of the programme, and it is down to them to decide together on the best use of their time. Through tailored coaching in the shared environment of their school, these programmes provide an opportunity for both coach and coachee to learn and develop from one another.

KNOWLEDGE OF UNIVERSITY

Like our Secondary programmes, Peer-to-Peer programmes conclude with a graduation trip where both coach and coachee have the chance to explore university campuses together. Activities will be led by coaches and CoachBright staff in order to give a sense of what being an independent student is really like.

I like the independence and working with someone whose experiences I can discover. CoachBright is a great opportunity for students to learn from one another and improve their own understanding as well as someone else’s!
— Jessi, Year 12 coach from Bacons College
